The work of the governing body is to act as an impartial monitor the work of the Academy in a strategic way. This means that they ensure the academy has in place all the policies and procedures which are prescribed by law as well as others which explain how the academy does its work. Full governors meetings occur throughout the year and governors are regularly given an update on the performance of the school. It is also a role of the governing body to make sure the recommendations contained in Ofsted and SIAS reports are carried out.
The Governing Body is made up of a range of individuals including parents and staff, representatives from the local community, local businesses, education institutions and representatives of the Northern Schools Trust. We are always seeking new members of the Governing Body and host elections for parent and staff representatives regularly. If you would like to understand more about being a Governor within one of our Northern Schools Trust academies, please contact Clerk to the Governors, Sian Turner.
Members of the Governing body are:
Chair of the Governing Body
Vice Chair and Parent Governor
Trust Appointed Governor
Trust Appointed Governor
Clerk to the Governing Body
Governors also work in smaller groups to monitor the overall effectiveness of different areas of academy life:
- Representative for Teaching and Learning Scrutiny: Maria Chambers
- Representative for Behaviour and Personal Development and Wellbeing Scrutiny: Lyndsay MacAulay
- Representative for Safeguarding: Nigel Ward

Message from Chair of Governors, Lyndsay MacAulay
The Kingsway Academy is developing in many ways. Results are not yet as strong as we need them to be to ensure the future success of our young people, but we, as a governing body, are committed to making the difficult decisions that will ensure progress and improvement is rapid here and supporting our new team of senior leaders to deliver success.
Our role as Governors is to work with the leadership team to ensure that The Kingsway Academy provides an outstanding education for your child. We bring together parents, representatives of the local community, draw on local businesses and people with national expertise in education and running organisations, and use this knowledge to help set the direction for The Kingsway Academy, provide practical support and hold the academy to account.
As a director of a local secondary school, and a parent with two young children living locally, I have seen how the teachers and support staff are committed to helping every student reach their full potential. I have every confidence that new Principal, Shelagh Potter brings focus, improved leadership, commitment to rigour and a no-nonsense approach to teaching which will significantly improve the outcomes for all of our young people
I hope that you will visit us and contact me if you have questions. Likewise, if you would be interested in joining the governing body, please do get in touch.
Yours, Lyndsay MacAulay
